     The Swordtail fish (Xiphophorus hellerii) is one of the popular aquarium fishes and is recognized by their extension in the lower part of the tail which resembles a sword. They are supposed to be kept with their own species. you easily identify the sexes as the male have long sword-like extension. They are most likely peaceful in nature as long as you have an exceptionally large tank. Mostly males should be kept with two or more females.  

Habitat: They are known for their tolerance towards different conditions. These fishes were found in the mid 18th century in Central and the North Americas. They are likely to be found in flowing streams with dense vegetation. Nowadays because of their ability to breed variant colors have made them to be found almost everywhere.

Breeding: These are live-bearing fishes. These Swordtail Fishes breed more colorful fishes. Breeding is more likely to happen when females are in more numbers than males. females produce about 80 fries at a time and they can produce it every four weeks. These fries have a much bigger chance of growing up than the fishes came from eggs. Males(5.5 Inches) are slightly smaller than the females(6.3 Inches).

Feeding: These are omnivorous, Therefore they eat almost everything like algae, insects. But we should keep a diet which includes processed and natural foods and vegetables like broccoli and shelled peas.
